Eleni Odysseos searches for remnants of interconnection. Her practice explores desire, abjection, tenderness, and isolation through symbolic figuration, choreographing a constellation of painting, text, sound, and light.
Odysseos develops her visual lexicon by appropriating and subverting the symbolic meaning of artefacts of the past. She is currently interested in cross-cultural archaeological approaches that incorporate postcolonial theory as a model for examining the relationship between image and identity.
Odysseos was the Abbey Fellow in Painting at the British School at Rome in 2021 and received an MFA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths in 2018.
Recent exhibitions include The Tending of the Otherwise, (Procida, Italian Capital of Culture IT, 2022), Hook Selects (New York, USA, 2021), Mediterranea 19 Young Artists Biennial (San Marino, 2021) Seeking Roots, NiMAC (Nicosia CY 2021), Hotel Happiness, (London UK 2021), Be Water Again, Korai (Nicosia, CY, 2019), and Figurative NOW., Daniel Benjamin Gallery (London, UK, 2018).
